Pixel Cat
Android · phones and tablets

A tiny cat moved into your status bar.

It walks on top of your clock, naps on the battery, hides in the corner beside the camera and, when it falls off, finds a creative way back up.

Free to keep. No ads, ever.

It notices what your phone does

The cat has its own little routine, and it reacts to you.

  • ChargingIt jumps on the battery and enjoys the warmth.
  • New notificationEars up. It walks over to see what arrived.
  • Camera openIt runs under the lens and strikes a pose.
  • ShakingIt holds on tight, and if you keep going, grabs a rope.
  • Low batteryOut comes a little blanket.
  • Late at nightMostly sleepy. Except for the famous 3 a.m. zoomies.
  • Pet and carryPress and hold to pet it. Drag it anywhere and let go.
  • Feeding timeKeep the bowl full three days in a row and it shows you its heart.

A bond that grows with you

Your cat gets to know you over time. The more you care for it, the closer it gets, and the bond never goes down.

  • Shy at firstIn the first days it backs away when you touch it. Pet it and feed it and it learns to trust you: first it sniffs your finger, then it headbutts it, and at last it rubs against you and shows its belly.
  • Four steps of friendshipStranger, Familiar, Friend, Best friend. Petting, the first meal of the day and a gift you accept bring you closer. At each new step it blinks slowly at you, hearts rain down and its name pops up.
  • It brings you giftsA cat that trusts you finds something once a day and brings it to you: a leaf in autumn, a snowflake in winter, a flower in spring. Tap it and it is delighted; ignore it and it takes it back, a little hurt.
  • It says good morningWhen you first unlock your phone in the morning it stretches and greets you. The closer you are, the happier the greeting.
  • It wears its nameGive it a name. In special moments the name shows up in a tiny bubble.
  • Its mood in the notificationIn normal mode the notification line tells you how it is doing: asleep, waiting for food, or bringing you a gift.

Rare moments, collected

Now and then your cat does something you may never see again. Every moment you catch goes into its album.

  • A rare moment albumA butterfly visit, a shooting star at night, a rainbow by day, soap bubbles, a sneeze that startles it. Ten moments in all; each one you see is kept.
  • A gift boxGifts are collected too. Most are leaves and feathers, but a golden fish bone, a four-leaf clover or even a star can turn up.
  • A character of its ownPlay a lot and it grows playful; pet it often and it turns cuddly. Its character slowly shapes what it likes to do.
  • A card to shareMake a picture card of your cat: its name, days together, its character and how much of the album it has filled.

Its very own cat card

Every cat gets a card with its name and portrait. The more you pet it and the longer you keep the bowl full, the more the card fills up.

  • Six hearts that fill up as you pet it
  • How many days you have been together
  • Your feeding streak and how full its tummy is
  • Its birthday: the day it moved in
The cat card in the app: portrait, hearts, days together, feeding streak, tummy and birthday.

Questions

Does it drain the battery?

Very little. The cat is a handful of tiny pictures, it slows down while sleeping, and it stops completely when the screen is off or a game or video is in landscape.

Does the cat cover the clock or the battery?

No. The cat never stops in front of the clock or the battery icon. It may walk past, but it does not stay there, so the time is always readable. Even on its rope trips it climbs down without covering them.

Which phones does it work on?

Android 8 and newer, phones and tablets. The camera hole and battery are found automatically. If your phone puts things somewhere unusual, Placement in the app shows guides on the status bar so you can fine tune it.

Why does battery mode use Accessibility?

Android doesn't let normal apps draw on top of the status bar. Battery mode uses the Accessibility service only to get that window, so the cat can sit on the battery icon. It does not read the screen or your taps. It's optional; normal mode works without it.

Is there an iPhone version?

Not yet. Pixel Cat is made for Android.

How do I cancel Plus?

Open Google Play > Profile > Payments and subscriptions > Subscriptions and cancel Pixel Cat Plus. Plus stays on until the end of the period you paid for.

How do I stop the cat quickly?

Tap Stop in its notification, or Send the cat home in the app.
